Meet Our Team

 

Andy Braner is from Little Rock, Arkansas.  He graduated from Baylor University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts in Theater and Performance.  He Attended Denver Seminary from 2002-2007 with an emphasis in World Religions.  Andy was the co-founder of an internationally recognized non-profit summer program called Camp KIVU.  In 2010, Andy helped establish The KIVU Gap Year, and continues to provide leadership, direction, and new locations for students to explore.  He has written 5 books on teen culture, been a keynote speaker for several conferences and Universities, and has been seen on CNN, Fox News, and CBN.  Currently, he is the Director of Middle East January Term.  He spends most of his days as a Research Fellow at the US House of Representatives.  He is a Fellow at the Center for Transatlantic Relations (CTR) at the Johns Hopkins School for Advanced International Studies.  He is a husband, father to 5, and friend to many.  Andy's mission in the world is to help students achieve everything they want in a global environment.  You can follow his personal blog here.  He can be reached at andy@kivugapyear.com.

 

Jamie Jo Braner is from Branson, Missouri.  She graduated with an Masters of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Eastern University in 2015.  Her undergraduate degree is Bachelor of Arts in Education from Baylor University.  She is a wife and a mother of five and has spent more than 20 years working with teens and young adults in a summer camping atmosphere.  She took her own Gap Year in 1995 and has been working full time with the KIVU Gap Year program since its inception.  The Kivu Gap Year has been something she had dreamed about creating for a long time.  Follow her blogging on daily life and family here.  She can be reached at jamiejo@kivugapyear.com.

 

Luke Parrott is from Cincinnati, Ohio.  He completed his undergraduate studies at Miami (OH) University with a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management.  He completed graduate work at Eastern University with a Master of Arts in International Development in 2015.  He has been working with Kivu for the past 16 years.  In 2009, he co-founded the Kivu Gap Year with Andy and Jamie Jo Braner.  He currently sits on the Gap Year Association Board as a representative for program providers.  He also chairs the Gap Year Association Research Committee in efforts to further the academic research surrounding benefits of the gap year experience. He has been taking students around the world to be listeners and learners of other cultures since 2007.  He occasionally blogs about life, faith, and culture here.  He can be reached at luke@kivugapyear.com.

 

Justin Ngoga lives in Kigali, Rwanda.  He graduated from the former National University of Rwanda (current University of Rwanda) with a bachelor’s degree of English in 2011. Justin has extensive experience in cross-cultural communication and training. He worked with Peace Corps in 2012 as a language and cross culture facilitator.  From 2013 to 2014, he worked as an academic program officer with a study abroad program in Rwanda.  From 2014 to 2016, Justin was the training lead with One Acre Fund while hosting Kivu Gap Year students in Kigali, Rwanda.
