Meet Our Team

Andy Braner is from Little Rock, Arkansas.  He graduated from Baylor University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts in Theater and Performance.  He Attended Denver Seminary from 2002-2007 with an emphasis in World Religions.  Andy was the co-founder of an internationally recognized non-profit summer program called Camp KIVU.  In 2010 Andy helped establish The KIVU Gap Year, and continues to provide leadership, direction, and new locations for students to explore.  He's written 5 books on teen culture, been a keynote speaker for several conferences and Universities, and has been seen on CNN, Fox News, and CBN.  He is a husband, father to 5, and friend to many.  Andy's mission in the world is to help students achieve everything they want in a global environment.  You can follow his personal blog here.  He can be reached at andy@kivugapyear.com.

 

Jamie Jo Braner is from Branson, Missouri.  She graduated with an Masters of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Eastern University and before that with a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Baylor University.  She is a wife and a mother of five and has spent more than 20 years working with teens and young adults in a summer camping atmosphere.  She took her own Gap Year in 1995 and has been working full time with the KIVU Gap Year program since its inception.  The Kivu Gap Year has been something she had dreamed about creating for a long time.  Follow her blogging on daily life and family here.  She can be reached at jamiejo@kivugapyear.com.

 

Luke Parrott is from Cincinnati, Ohio.  He completed his undergraduate studies at Miami (OH) University with a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management.  He recently completed graduate work at Eastern University with a Master of Arts in International Development.  He has been working with Kivu for the past 15 years.  In 2009, he co-founded the Kivu Gap Year with Andy and Jamie Jo Braner.  He has been taking students around the world to be listeners and learners of other cultures since 2007.  His greatest interests are in the sociology, anthropology, and psychology of global human development.  He occasionally blogs about life, faith, and culture here.  He can be reached at luke@kivugapyear.com.

 

 

Josh Benjamin spent the first 19 years of his life being raised throughout Latin America. The first eight years were spent in Bogota, Colombia, followed by another two in Curitiba, Brazil and finally the last nine were spent in Santiago, Chile. He graduated in December 2013 from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado with an undergraduate degree in Bachelor of Science in Adventure Education. He has worked at Kivu as a backpacking guide, counselor, Leadership Staff, and Gap Year Field Staff since 2012. Previous summers, he functioned as Camp Kivu’s Backcountry Director. Due to his upbringing, Josh spent a significant amount of time traveling around the world and has developed a wealth of knowledge from his culture exchanges. Emily Ronco is from Kansas City, Missouri. She graduated from the University of Missouri, Columbia in May 2012 with degrees in Journalism and English. Emily was a camper, counselor and leadership team member at Kivu from 2008-2013. After graduating college and the Kanakuk Institute, she moved to Chicago and worked as an Event Coordinator at Moody Bible Institute for two years. This is Emily's second year on staff with Gap Year, and she has traveled to East Africa, the Holy Land, and several countries in Europe. She can be reached at emily@kivugapyear.com

 

 

 

Justin Ngoga is a Rwandan living in Kigali, Rwanda.  He graduated from the former National University of Rwanda (current University of Rwanda) with a bachelor’s degree of English in 2011. Justin has extensive experience in cross-cultural communication and training. He worked with Peace Corps in 2012 as a language and cross culture facilitator.  From 2013 to 2014, he worked as an academic program officer with a study abroad program in Rwanda.  From 2014 to 2016, Justin was the training lead with One Acre Fund while hosting Kivu Gap Year students in Kigali, Rwanda.
